I wish I could say that making this piece gave me closure on the death of an old friend, but it didn’t.  What it gave me was an opening to become more comfortable with my own mortality, and a view of how it might happen for me and my wife.  It’s important that we prepare.  In our society, we have established norms for handling death, but few for handling dying.  Sculpted from locally harvested ash wood and aluminum on a cherry base.  Finished with wood bleach, aniline dyes, colored pencil, and acrylic polyurethane.
