Based on a news photo of a soldier rescuing an old man in the aftermath of the 2012 tsunami at Fukushima.  Nearly 17,000 people died, 6,000 were injured, and over 2,600 are missing after this tragedy.  I was struck by the nobility of the act.  Sculpted from myrtle with a walnut base.  Finished with analine dye, wood bleach, and acrylic polyurethane.
